The
International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award was first awarded in 1996.
It is awarded annually to a title nominated from libraries around
the world, and at a value of $118,000 (100,000 Irish pounds) is
the world's richest literary prize for a single work of fiction.
Over 100 libraries -- from Australia to Namibia, Grenada to Nepal
-- nominate titles of a high literary standard published in the
last year either in English or translated into English. The award
is administered by the Dublin Corporation Public Libraries.
